You could find your next home for free — as long as you’re willing to deal with an unusual roommate.
According to The Mirror, a house in Youngsville, Louisiana is looking for a new owner. Not only is the home being offered for free, but it also has a spooky, haunted history.
The house itself, located on Verot School Road, was built in the 1920s or 1930s, according to a Facebook post by Sylvia McLain, a real estate agent and a co-owner of McLain Investments. Her post from March details that she is looking for someone who is willing to relocate the house at their own expense, which offsets the price of the house.
“In an effort to save the history of the home we are offering it to anyone who would be interested in moving it to another location for restoration,” McLain wrote on Facebook. “We have concentrated our efforts and development cost in saving as many of the trees as possible and simply do not have a place in the neighborhood for the home.”
The two-story home boasts 2,400 square feet and two working A/C units. If the house was to be kept close by, according to Metro, it could cost about $40,000 to move it. Or, if it were to be taken apart and reassembled, it could cost up to $80,000.
But perhaps the most unique part of the house is its reputation in the community. According to The Mirror, locals apparently compare it to the “Amityville Horror” house on New York’s Long Island, which was notorious for a grisly murder and subsequent haunting (which has been largely disputed).
Commenters on McLain’s Facebook post say the house is well-known for “weird noises” in the ceilings and walls and other “unexplained” happenings. According to The Mirror, former resident Dawn Vallot DeClout, whose family reportedly owned the property from 1860 through the 1980s, claims the house is haunted by the spirit of her great grandmother, Adele.
“We believe [Adele] is the ghost, but she’s not menacing at all. She was probably like 4ft 9in and weighed about 100 pounds,” DeClout told The Mirror. Adele’s benevolent spirit is said to be known for making noise in the kitchen, but does not mean any harm — which seems like a pretty far cry from the alleged terrors of the Amityville house.
Another Facebook commenter predicted that the hauntings would “stay with the land,” rather than the house itself — so it’s possible anyone who takes the house may not have any trouble at all.
According to The Mirror, McLain is worried she will not be able to find a buyer for the house. However, if you’ve got the funds to move it and feel like potentially having a ghostly roommate, McLain’s contact information can be found on her original Facebook post.
