As working remotely has become the new normal amid the coronavirus pandemic, maintaining office-level productivity is one #WFHgoal we’re all looking to maintain.

Julianne Hough — known for her time on Dancing with the Stars and America’s Got Talent, and for founding holistic fitness method KINRGY — told Travel + Leisure recently that even though she craves community with her colleagues, she’s actually keeping her work grind on par, and even surprised herself by stepping it up, while in quarantine.

“I’m such a people person I was like, ‘Ahh, I don’t know how this is going to work out,’ and I realized that my productivity has actually gone way up and I have more time,” she told T+L.

To get an extra boost while working from home, Hough partnered with Light & Fit yogurt to launch a new app perfect for anyone looking to amp up their productivity while working remotely. Aptly named Working Well by Light and Fit, the platform also includes a Slack integration to remind anyone using the workplace tool to keep their wellness routines intact — whether it’s drinking enough water, going for a walk, or, if you’re like Hough, getting in a quick dance break.

“I’m not telling people to do some choreographed routine or anything but just, like get up and dance to feel-good music,” she said, recommending anyone losing concentration gets up and moves around. “When you have an emotional charge that brings your vibration up to a higher state I think that you can be more productive.”

The project is also donating $200,000 to the Movemeant Foundation to help instructors and trainers who have been without work as coronavirus has led to the closure of gyms and fitness studios.

“People are not making any money right now because people are not in studios,” Hough said. “It feels good every day to wake up and feel like I have a purpose to serve, yet it’s making an impact during this time, especially when people feel like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on,’ and ‘I’m uncertain.’

Hough’s KNRGY classes are being taught online, with the dancer teaching some sessions herself, through the company’s website. The dance-based fitness class will be launching an official online studio in a few weeks, she told T+L.

“Being able to serve and reach people through technology has been honestly a really big blessing [because] we can now serve and connect with people now globally,” she said.

When she’s not dancing it out, her quarantine routine also includes taking work breaks to make lunch, taking adorable selfies, and heading out for jogs.

“I kind of reframed working out a little bit,” the dance pro told us. “I used to hate to run, I felt like running was a chore and I’ve been running in the morning, and it’s not like a far run, but just a little jog in the morning that I’ve never done before.”

“It’s about the connection to nature and meeting my neighbors and saying hello for the first time,” she added. “I feel even more connected to my home and my neighborhood and the people that are around me, yet I feel like I have time for myself.”

And when it comes to relaxing, Hough has refrained from screen time — aside from the pop-culture highlight of everyone’s time at home.

“I haven’t turned it on since ‘Tiger King’ which was the very beginning of quarantine and I don’t know why,” she said of extra TV watching. “I love TV and I love movies, I don’t know it’s weird, because I’m on a screen for zoom and work meetings and stuff — like I just need to not see a screen.”

But when we can get out and travel again, Hough is hoping to take a fall trip to Tonga, while continuing to add other dream-worthy locations around the world, and even an epic road trip, to her bucket list.

“I’ve never been to Spain, like Barcelona, where you can experience the cities as well as the beaches and experience the dancing and the culture that I really want to do; Egypt is number one on my bucket list to go and see the pyramids for sure,” she said. “One thing that I may do is rent a cool truck or van or something that’s all decked out and go up to the Pacific Northwest and travel through Utah, Colorado, and experience the Grand Canyon — I love to travel and have new experiences.”
