Claude Monet may be known as one of the founders of Impressionism, but this French painter’s work is getting a pop art spin at a new exhibition in Florida. Inspired by the many paintings of Monet’s own garden, the Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes Pop! exhibit is currently on display at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in downtown Sarasota. The 15-acre campus has been transformed with the installment of large-scale versions of Monet’s work as seen through the lens of Roy Lichtenstein — an icon in his own right, who pioneered the pop art movement in the 1960s....

In Morgan Jerkins’ new book, “Wandering in Strange Lands” (Harper Collins, 2020), she takes readers along with her as she retraces the steps of her family’s migration from the South to their eventual settling place in New Jersey. New York eased travel restrictions for vaccinated visitors, allowing them to skip the state’s quarantine and testing requirements. The new rule, which applies to domestic travel only, will waive all quarantine and testing protocols for those who have been fully vaccinated within 90 days of their trip, the state’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a news conference on Wednesday. “New Yorkers have done a tremendous job working to defeat COVID, and we’re gradually loosening restrictions as the numbers reduce and the public health improves,” Cuomo said in a statement....

A federal judge sided with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings on Sunday, ruling the company could require proof of vaccination from passengers before boarding a cruise in Florida. The ruling comes just days before the Norwegian Gem is scheduled to depart from Miami on Aug. 15, the company’s first ship to depart Florida since sailing restarted this year, Norwegian shared with Travel + Leisure. A massive fire broke out at the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Monday, causing part of the iconic building to collapse. Though the cause of the fire remains unclear, early reports indicate it may have begun at a construction site on the property. Tourists and locals could only stand by as the cathedral’s spire went up in flames and later collapsed. The Biden administration is developing a plan to re-open the country’s international borders to fully vaccinated travelers.
