The island paradise of the Maldives wants to begin vaccinating tourists in the future, the country’s tourism minister announced, providing a unique draw to a destination known for its dreamy overwater bungalows and abundant sea life. The Maldives will implement a “3V Program” — “visit, vaccinate, and vacation” — in an effort to draw travelers back and help the nation meet its goal of seeing 1.5 million tourist arrivals this year, Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom told CNBC on Wednesday....

Savvy travelers who opt to take public transportation need to be on high alert in Paris as reports of pickpocketing on the city’s metro stations have increased 74 percent over the past year. From January to October, the Paris metro saw a reported 7,485 thefts. In the same period last year, that number was only 4,721, French outlet, Le Parisien reported this week. The Metro station with the highest number of thefts is Châtelet-les-Halles, one of the busiest hubs in the city center, where most travelers connect to other metro lines....

On Wednesday night, four civilians will board a SpaceX spacecraft in the world’s first all-civilian human spaceflight to orbit. The historic launch of the Inspiration4 mission will take place on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft within a five-hour window on Wednesday, starting at 8:02 p.m. EDT, according to the company. The spaceship will take off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and orbit the Earth for three days before splashing back down off the Florida coast....

United Airlines customers could soon fly from New York to London in just three and a half hours thanks to the airline’s investment in supersonic planes. Carnival Cruise Line strengthened its onboard mask policy amid the spread of the omicron variant, the latest cruise line to implement stricter protocols to prevent transmission of the virus. Going forward, all guests 2 years old and older will be “requested” to wear masks in indoor public spaces, except when eating and drinking, according to Carnival. The new mask protocols will be in place through at least Jan. 31, 2022....

As I stood outside the Iglesia de San Juan de Bautista in the village of San Juan Chamula, I marveled at the artistry of the traditional dress worn by the congregants filing in. Women of every age showed off ornately embroidered black sheepskin skirts and sashes and blouses the color of Easter eggs. It was a reminder of Chamula’s status as a stronghold of ancient Tzotzil and Tzeltal Mayan culture—and the resilience of its native communities, which were exploited and displaced after the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century....

Germany lifted travel restrictions on American tourists on Sunday, saying willkommen to travelers once again. To enter the country by air, U.S. travelers 6 and older must show proof they’ve been fully vaccinated or show proof they contracted COVID-19 and recovered between 28 days and six months before their trip, the German National Tourist Office shared with Travel + Leisure. Travelers can also show proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of their arrival or a rapid antigen test within 48 hours of arrival....
