If you’re planning to hit the slopes, a flight aboard Alaska Airlines could pay for itself this winter. The airline is bringing back its “Ski Free” promotion for the 2020-2021 winter season, allowing skiers and snowboarders free lift passes at resorts in the U.S. and Canada after they present an Alaska Airlines boarding pass. Resorts that will be giving out free time on the slopes include Alyeska Resort in Alaska for passengers flying from Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Seattle, and Spokane to Anchorage....

Now might be the time to return to the rails. Amtrak just launched a sale on its northeastern routes, with coach fares starting at $19 each way and Acela business class seats for as low as $39 each way. The sale, which launched today, is good for spring and summer travel from March 30 to Sept. 30 of this year. And while it’s the perfect way to indulge in slow travel, there’s no time to stall to snag these rates....

Apple’s mask-wearing emoji will be turning its frown upside down in the midst of the global pandemic, during which mask-wearing has been proven to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After a 31-day restoration, Celebrity Summit was more than ready to welcome me as I climbed aboard for a two-night cruise around Puerto Rico in March. Thousands of healthcare workers battling COVID-19 at a hard-hit hospital in Queens, New York, were surprised with free roundtrip flights and future hotel stays to say thank you. “We are humbled by the healthcare workers’ dedication to saving lives,” Mark Hoplamazian, the president and CEO of Hyatt, said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure. “Now it’s our turn to take care of them like members of our own family, and we look forward to making their stays special when they are able to take a hard-earned break....

I never went to a high school dance, but here I am, swirling around the dance floor beneath the gilded ceiling of the Musikverein. Thank goodness for my dashing dance partner, nimbly navigating our path among the Viennese beau monde as we waltz, rumba, and even polka, which is reminiscent of Disneyland’s Mad Tea Party ride for me. ITA Airways — the new Italian flag carrier — took over from the bankrupt Alitalia on Oct. 15, 2021, with 52 planes and 2,800 staff members, compared to Alitalia’s respective 110 and 10,500. Many thought that, reduced fleet aside, nothing would change. In fact, that’s what the staff at Venice airport told me as I checked in for my flight to Rome on Oct. 16, barely 24 hours into the airline’s life....

Even though I’m a type-A travel editor who loves to plan in advance and lives for a detailed itinerary, I somehow always find myself on last-minute scrambles to pack for unplanned trips. Los Angeles’ newest low-fare airline, Avelo, is giving 42 round-trip tickets to recent graduates from the Los Angeles area to help the class of 2021 get back into travel mode and soar to new heights. “This has been a challenging school year for students trying to remain academically engaged while often studying remotely,” said Andrew Levy, Avelo’s chairman and CEO. “The L.A. area is home to hundreds of schools.
