New York City’s American Museum of Natural History will become one of the city’s latest COVID-19 vaccination sites later this week. New Yorkers will be able to receive a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in the museum’s Hall of Ocean Life, beneath the gigantic blue whale model that hangs from the ceiling. “This institution is dedicated to fostering scientific knowledge and understanding and providing access to the public so I can’t even imagine a more important manifestation of our mission in action,” President of the American Museum of Natural History, Ellen Futter, said this week, according to Time Out New York....

The New York City subway may be the busiest subway system in the United States, but until now, they’ve utilized an old-school swipe system (MetroCardo) for entry. This is all about to change with new tap technology being released at 16 stations and on every bus in Staten Island starting Friday. Using the MTA’s new OMNY system (One Metro New York), riders will be able to pay their fare by tapping their smartphone or contactless credit or debit card on a big blue reader at the subway turnstile or bus entrance....

Australia’s Qantas Airlines has kept its title of the safest airline in the world, even during the time of COVID-19. In a ranking by AirlineRatings.com released Monday, Qantas came out on top among 385 airlines, for its “truly amazing record of firsts in operations and safety.” Factors that went into the ranking included the airline’s crash and serious incident record, government and industry audits, safety initiatives (including new COVID-19 protocol) and fleet age....

The deadline for Real ID driver’s licenses and ID cards has been extended a year as the spread of COVID-19 forces millions of Americans to social distance and stay home. “We’re postponing the deadline for compliance with Real ID requirements…" President Donald Trump said at a White House news briefing on Monday, especially “at a time when we’re asking Americans to maintain social distancing…” The new deadline is now Oct. 1, 2021....

Walking to Chicano Park in San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood, I got the distinct impression that I was lost. According to my phone’s GPS, I was less than a block away from the seven acres that locals had described to me as a stronghold of the city’s Mexican-American community. All I could see, however, was a colossal highway overpass — a sea of highway overpasses, actually. It was hard to imagine that the thing I’d come to San Diego hoping to understand — how the city is continually shaped and reshaped by its standing on the border with Mexico — would be revealed in what looked like an urban no-man’s-land....
