Italy’s famed $1 homes are back on the market. In 2019, several small Italian towns put up their abandoned homes for just $1 in an effort to lure more residents in and to rebuild the communities. In places like Ollolai and Binovia, would-be Italians could scoop up homes for $1, and the town of Bivona in Sicily offered its homes for $1 down and a $2,750 bond. “Despite so many empty buildings, Bivona’s old center is still vibrant, packed with history and very welcoming,” Angela Cannizzaro, Bivona’s culture councilor, told CNN at the time....

If you’ve ever wanted to live in a quiet, picturesque town in the mountains, the time is now. The Swiss village of Albinen, near Leukerbad in the canton of Valais, will be voting on an initiative that would offer money to non-residents who are willing to live in the village for at least 10 years. These new residents will be paid 25,000 francs (about $25,200 USD) per adult and 10,000 francs (just over $10,000 USD) per child, according to the town’s newsletter, as translated by The Local....

Following the rental car shortage of summer 2021, which led to travelers paying massive fees or having to find alternative modes of transportation, Kayak is here to warn you that the same thing could happen this holiday season. Kayak recently released new data showing that rental car searches and prices for the holiday season (here defined as Nov. 12 to Jan. 7) are up compared to both 2019 and 2020. Specifically, Kayak noted that rental car searches are already up 230% compared to 2019 and up 243% compared to 2020....

Airbnb will block guests without a history of good reviews from booking an entire home for single night stays in the United States for the July 4 holiday, the company shared with Travel + Leisure. “As the July 4 weekend approaches, we are deploying more stringent restrictions on one and two-night reservations that may pose heightened risk for parties,” Airbnb wrote in a statement detailing their 8-point “Summer of Responsible Travel” plan....

Aman, the ultra-luxury hotel brand that operates some of the world’s most lusted-after hotels, has just launched a new spin-off brand. Janu is all about “soul” and “connectedness,” the company says, and the new hotels will offer plenty of opportunity for interaction and “playfulness.” That’s in stark contrast to existing Aman properties, which prioritize privacy, like the supremely zen Aman Kyoto, which just opened and landed on Travel + Leisure’s It List of the world’s best new hotels....

​​Amtrak became the latest company to require vaccinations for employees on Thursday, joining several airlines that have mandated the jab. The rail company will require all employees be either fully vaccinated or submit to weekly testing by Nov. 1, Amtrak shared with Travel + Leisure. In addition, all new employees will have to prove they are fully vaccinated before their first day starting Oct. 4. Employees must submit proof of their vaccination to Amtrak’s self-service portal....

California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom said he sent a team to out-of-state theme parks to explore the possibility of reopening Disneyland, the only Disney theme park in the world that remains closed. “This week… we have supported an effort to actually find out directly by sending our own team to these sites as it relates to theme parks to get a better sense of what’s going on,” Newsom said during a news conference on Monday....
