In light of recent events involving acts of hate and violence against the AAPI community within the U.S. and abroad, Canada-based writer and philanthropist Anna Kim, founder of My Travelanthropy, shared the following essay with Travel + Leisure. According to Stop AAPI Hate, there were 3,795 reported incidents of anti-Asian hate between March 2020 and February 2021 in the United States, highlighting just how severe the increase in Asian hate crimes has become....

Celebrity Cruises updated its vaccination policy for sailings out of Florida, following a federal judge’s ruling that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cannot enforce coronavirus-related rules on ships in its ports. In accordance with the ruling announced Friday, the judge set a July 18 start date for when the CDC’s rules “will persist as only a nonbinding ‘consideration,’ ‘recommendation’ or ‘guideline,’ but gave the agency until July 2 to propose a “narrower injunction,” The New York Times reported....

London’s Heathrow Airport is working to prevent the spread of coronavirus by implementing several precautionary measures. The highly-frequented transportation hub has closed Terminal 3 and, starting Sunday, relocated airlines from Terminal 4, including Air France, KLM, and Etihad Airways. All flights from these terminals will be temporarily relocated to Terminals 2 or 5, according to the airport. Passengers should check their online terminal finder before heading to the airport. For passengers who are still flying out of Heathrow, the airport has implemented social distancing measures, including blocking off certain seats and implementing signs that tell people to keep their distance from each other....

The Hawaiian island of Kauai is opting out of the state’s travel testing program following an increase in both travel-related coronavirus cases and community spread, Hawaii’s Gov. David Ige confirmed. “The unprecedented surge of COVID-19 cases on the mainland and the rise in community spread on Kaua‘i are of significant concern for the Garden Isle. We must protect Kaua‘i residents and visitors and ensure that Kaua‘i’s hospitals do not become overwhelmed,” Ige said in a statement on Friday....
