A nearly 5,000-mile-long plume of dust from the Sahara Desert is expected to arrive in the U.S. later this week. Although a plume of dust emerges from the desert every year — known as the Saharan Air Layer (SAL) — this year’s occurrence is unusually intense and could set records for its high concentration, according to The Weather Channel. While much of the world stays inside their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, three astronauts launched away from Earth on a mission to the International Space Station. NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and two Russian cosmonauts, Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, arrived at the ISS on Thursday at 10:13 a.m. ET after lift-off in Kazakhstan.
