The transport workers strike in France entered its 29th day on Thursday, making it the longest rail workers’ strike in more than 50 years and severely affecting travel around the country. France’s national rail operator SNCF said on Thursday that it expected half of its regular high-speed service to be canceled due to the strikes. Only about 25 percent of inter-city trains are expected to run and regional rail service is not much better....

Frontier Airlines is reducing its weight limit for check bags starting next month, a protocol that the airline attributes to its effort to go green. Starting March 1, Frontier will limit checked bags to a maximum of 40 pounds — 10 pounds less than the carrier currently allows — for tickets purchased on or after Jan. 18, according to the airline. “Reducing the maximum allowable weight for a standard checked bag encourages customers to avoid overpacking, which helps reduce overall aircraft weight and conserve fuel, in keeping with the mission of America’s Greenest Airline,” a spokesperson for Frontier Airlines told Travel + Leisure....

Travel to Germany just got more difficult as the country recently implemented stricter lockdown rules against a second wave of COVID-19. On Monday, all of Germany’s 16 federal states enacted tougher lockdown measures, including new travel and gathering restrictions. Now, anyone traveling to Germany from a “high-risk area” (which includes the U.S.) will be required to provide two negative COVID-19 tests before being allowed to move about the country, DW reported....

Crystal Mountain Resort in Washington State is teaming up with Under Canvas to bring travelers one of the coolest camping experiences of the summer. From July 1 to Sept. 31, 2021, groups of travelers will have the chance to buy out the entire campsite at Crystal Mountain Resort, known as Crystal Camp, for special events or simply for a vacation to remember. But, that’s not all. Crystal Camp is now also offering individuals two opportunities to experience the campsite with its Mountain Escape and Perseid Meteor Shower packages....

Delta Air Lines is making it easier for families and larger groups to sit together with dynamic seat maps that block certain rows for larger parties, the airline shared with Travel + Leisure. The booking feature, which the airline started rolling out prior to the pandemic in 2019, blocks off certain rows on a seat map in the main cabin so only groups of three or more people traveling together can book them....

Travelers flying from the United Kingdom to the United States will now be required to arrive with a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of their flight, according to a new rule from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new requirement, which went into effect on Sunday, applies to all passengers who are currently eligible to fly from the UK to the U.S., including U.S. citizens. Airlines will be responsible for confirming negative test results before boarding, the CDC said....

Hilton Hotels announced on Monday that it is developing a new chain of hotels called Tapestry. In a statement, Hilton CEO and President Christopher J. Nassetta said, “Tapestry Collection by Hilton will enable us to provide the best of both worlds to travelers who are looking for an independent hotel experience but also want the consistency and reassurance they expect from Hilton.” The first Tapestry properties expected to open first are in Syracuse, New York; Chicago; Nashville; Warren, New Jersey; Hampton, Virginia; and two in Indianapolis....

This week, Oakland International Airport in California became the first airport in the U.S. to sell COVID-19 tests in vending machines. Travelers passing through the airport are now able to purchase at-home test kits and pick them up at a contactless vending machine designed by digital health company Wellness 4 Humanity. They range in price from $130 to $150 and can be reimbursed by health insurance providers To purchase a test, customers are required to pay online at W4Humanity....
