Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific is asking its 27,000 employees to take three weeks of unpaid leave between March 1 and the end of June, due to a “significant” drop in demand for flights following the coronavirus outbreak, CNN reported. The airline is also implementing hiring freezes, asking suppliers for price reductions, and stopping all non-critical spending, chief executive Augustus Tang told employees in a video, according to Reuters. “This has been one of the most difficult Chinese New Year holidays we have ever had,” Tang said in the video....

Fully vaccinated Americans no longer have to wear masks or social distance in most situations, including indoors, according to guidance updated on Thursday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Those who received both shots of a two-dose vaccine or one shot of Johnson & Johnson can ditch their masks in several indoor and outdoor situations, including going to an indoor movie theater, eating in an indoor restaurant, participating in an exercise class, and visiting a hair salon....

Traveling to Honolulu from Los Angeles International Airport just got a bit easier thanks to Clear’s Health Pass. Beginning Feb. 18, visitors on select Delta and United flights from LAX to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport can register their negative COVID-19 test results within 72 hours of travel through Clear’s Health Pass app and avoid the mandatory 10-day quarantine period. The free mobile app designed by the company, best known for its expedited screening systems at select airports, stadiums, and venues, will use a secure system to verify identity and match up records to other COVID-19-related data, like vaccination....

After multiple delays, Hawaii will lift its mandatory quarantine rules for visitors who can prove they do not have the coronavirus with negative test results, Gov. David Ige announced this week. Travelers who complete an FDA-approved nasal swab COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their flight arrival in Hawaii — and are able to produce evidence of negative test results — will be eligible to forego the state’s 14-day quarantine instructions....

The New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service airdropped thousands of pounds of carrots and sweet potatoes to hungry wallabies in the outback, who haven’t eaten because of Australia’s bushfires. According to Australia’s national parks service, the wildfires had burnt the habitats of several important Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby populations. “The wallabies typically survive the fire itself, but are then left stranded with limited natural food as the fire takes out the vegetation around their rocky habitat,” Environment Minister Matt Kean said in a statement on Sunday....

Japan is becoming the latest country to issue digital vaccine passports, according to a report, allowing citizens to use proof of inoculation to travel internationally once again. The digital passport will be available through a mobile app and will be linked to the government’s vaccination program, Japanese news outlet Nikkei Asia reported. Vaccinated citizens currently receive a certificate in paper format. The passport is in talks to be added to an app that is expected to debut next month as a means to show negative test results....

Beaches in Los Angeles County will reopen on Wednesday for exercise and swimming, but idle activities like sunbathing will not be allowed. Locals will still have to maintain social distancing on the sand and masks will need to be worn, The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors announced on Twitter.
