An American Airlines regional airline resumed flights on Friday after being grounded by the Federal Aviation Administration, forcing the carrier to cancel hundreds of flights. The regional carrier, PSA Airlines, which operates American Eagle flights, was grounded on Thursday over an inspection issue, forcing American Airlines to cancel about 250 flights and rebook affected passengers. An American Airlines spokeswoman told Travel + Leisure the grounding was due to a “necessary, standard inspection on the nose gear door....

American Airlines is changing its procedure for voluntary bumping from overbooked flights — and it means you might not end up with the best offers. Previously, when an American Airlines flight was overbooked, passengers could volunteer to be bumped, stating a number for how much they would like to be compensated. Everyone who volunteered for compensation would be offered the same amount so a gate agent wouldn’t have to deal with different amounts for different customers....

According to a journalist who spent over 30 years researching the ship, a fire raged in the ship’s hull for almost three weeks that weakened the ship’s structure before it collided with an iceberg, killing more than 1,500 passengers. Titanic researchers have acknowledged the theory before but due to new photographs, many are blaming the fire as the main cause of the ship’s sinking. Beginning Jan. 22, 2018, travelers from nine states will no longer be able to travel with only their driver’s licenses. Residents of Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington will have to use alternate ID forms (passport, military ID, or permanent resident card) to pass TSA security checkpoints—even for domestic travel. JetBlue’s TrueBlue frequent flier program is about to get better for its most loyal members. Beginning Jan. 5, JetBlue is introducing a new elite tier, Mosaic+, which will give travelers the gift they’ve been asking for: free upgrades to Mint, the airline’s version of business class. “TrueBlue has always been about giving our customers new ways to get even more of the JetBlue travel experience they already know and love, which is why in 2022 we’re rolling out additional benefits for our most frequent fliers to look forward to,” JetBlue’s vice president of loyalty and personalization, Don Uselmann, said in a statement....

With travelers looking for more peace of mind as they head back to the skies, several airports are making moves to offer on-site COVID-19 testing services. The latest to join this trend towards the “new normal” are two New York area airports: John F. Kennedy International in Queens and Newark International in Newark, New Jersey. Joe Biden will no longer be taking the Amtrak to his inauguration citing security concerns. The decision to not take Biden’s favorite mode of transportation to the Jan. 20 ceremony comes after last week’s riot at the Capitol has put security around both Washington D.C. and the rest of the country on high alert, CNN reported Wednesday.
