The Federal Aviation Administration laid out a series of safety fixes this week for the Boeing 737 Max in order to get the beleaguered plane flying again, according to the agency. The FAA’s proposed rule changes include requiring the installation of new flight control computer software and completing an angle of attack sensor system test. The FAA will also require the planes’ MCAS (the anti-stall software involved in both crashes) to be linked to two sensors instead of just one, according to The Associated Press, and make it less powerful so pilots can respond if it erroneously pushes the plane’s nose down....

When you think “pavement,” you probably think of a hot, flat, asphalt parking lot. But it turns out that you can even find “pavement” in nature. According to Atlas Obscura, a strangely rectangular rock formation of saltwater pools called the Eaglehawk Neck Tessellated Pavement in Tasmania, Australia is actually a particular kind of erosion created by the earth itself, rather than by some human-made mechanism. This strange natural wonder is called “tessellated pavement” because of its resemblance to the Roman style of tile flooring, but these pools definitely weren’t laid out by some interior designer....

The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas is lifting the curtain on one of its most impressive renovations yet. Since 2016, the Vegas hotspot has been undergoing a $690-million renovation, and it’s now debuting the results. A man who spent nearly five years in prison for a crime he did not commit is suing Hertz for allegedly refusing to furnish the receipt that would have proven his innocence. Herbert Alford, of Detroit, is suing Hertz Corporation for ignoring multiple subpoenas and court orders. A receipt from the day Alford rented a car from the company would have corroborated his alibi and proven he did not commit murder in October 2011....

In the last 30 years, scientists have discovered more than 4,000 exoplanets, or planets outside our own solar system. Their latest discovery, however, is a bit of a doozy. Earlier this week, a team of researchers announced the discovery of TOI-561b, a rocky exoplanet that’s been deemed a “super-Earth.” It’s located about 280 light-years away. But before you get excited about the prospect of aliens, the planet is far too hot to sustain any type of life (that we know about, anyway)....

A very special panda reached a milestone birthday this year. An An, a giant panda living at Hong Kong Ocean Park in China, just turned 35 years old, making him the longest living panda currently living in captivity and the oldest male panda under human care, CNN reported. An An, whose name translates to “peace,” was born in the wild in Sichuan, China in 1986 and was given to the Hong Kong government by China in 1999 with his mate and has been in Ocean Park’s care ever since, according to CNN....
