It’s been about a year since WOW Air — known for its ultra-cheap flights to Iceland — declared bankruptcy, and seven months since the airline actually ceased operations. Auckland, New Zealand is the most livable city in the world, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2021 Global Liveability Index. Each year, this report analyzes 140 cities around the world and rates them on a scale from one to 100, looking at over 30 factors in five major categories — stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure — to determine the most (and least) livable destinations. Cities in Australia and New Zealand dominate six of the top 10 spots this year, thanks in part to their pandemic response, and several of these places have made the list year after year with consistently high ratings....

American Airlines debuted new uniforms this week following a 2017 lawsuit alleging that old uniforms were hazardous to employees. The new uniforms, given to more than 50,000 employees, are manufactured by Lands’ End. All components — like sewing threads, buttons and zippers — have been independently tested for hazardous chemicals, according to the airline. In response to the new COVID-19 variant circulating around the world, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday a host of new quarantine regulations for those entering Canada. Expanding on the country’s existing testing requirement, which mandates that travelers test negative for COVID-19 three days before their arrival or return to Canada, travelers will now be required to test again upon arrival at the airport. They will then have to quarantine in an approved hotel for up to three days — at their own expense — while awaiting their test results, the Associated Press reported....

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added Antigua and Barbuda and Bermuda to its highest travel advisory on Monday, in its latest assessment of the coronavirus risk around the globe. The classification, a “Level 4” advises Americans to “avoid travel” to these countries due to a “very high” level of COVID-19. The South American country of Guyana is also now designated as a “Level 4.” The CDC also raised the island of Bonaire to a “Level 3” from a “Level 2,” and added six more destinations to its “Level 3” classification, including Colombia and Ukraine....

The White House on Monday detailed guidelines for the resumption of international travel, laying out exceptions to its vaccine requirement just weeks before the United States plans to reopen its borders to the world. The U.S. will start welcoming fully vaccinated foreign citizens on Nov. 8 for non-essential travel, but there will be a few notable exceptions to the vaccine mandate: Children under 18 years old, foreign travelers coming from countries with a less than 10% total vaccination rate due to a lack of vaccine availability, and travelers who have had a severe allergic reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine will all be exempt, a senior White House administration official told reporters on Monday....

Fully vaccinated travelers heading to Maui will not need to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival if they can prove they’re fully vaccinated with original proof of their shot, the Hawaiian county reminded travelers recently. “We remind trans-Pacific travelers that they need to provide proper documentation to be exempted from the post-arrival test,” Mayor Michael Victorino said in a press release. “We need an original CDC vaccination card or a certificate of vaccination from the CDC....
