The island of Kauai, known as the Garden Isle, launched a new website last week to offer visitors “more sustainable transportation choices,” after a significant increase of visitors led to a shortage of rental cars. In addition to cars, the site, GetAroundKauai.com, includes airport shuttles, public buses, rideshare services, and even motorbike rentals in an effort to encourage “low-impact green rides to improve the visitor experience, reduce island traffic, increase small business opportunities, and meet climate action goals....

Philippe Starck is bored with the boutique hotel. “I want a revolution,” claims the man who is one of the progenitors of the movement. “I want to give people experiences not through gimmicks, but with elegance and intelligence.” Starck is hoping to do just that by teaming up with Sam Nazarian, the force behind some of L.A.’s most buzzy venues, including Katsuya, a Japanese-fusion restaurant that is a T+L 2008 Design Award winner....

It must be spring, because Lake Michigan is thawing out into an otherworldly patch of glittering ice shards. Thailand will begin implementing a tourism fee in April, using the money for things like funding new projects and upgrading tourism infrastructure. The new 300 baht fee, or about $9, will be included in the cost of airline tickets, Reuters reported. The fee will also be used to cover accident insurance for foreigners who can’t pay themselves. United Airlines and American Airlines expanded its face mask rule to include the airports where it operates. For United, starting July 24, the new areas that now require face coverings include customer service counters, kiosks, lounges, gates, and baggage claim areas, passengers will be required to wear face coverings. Passengers who do not wear masks could be refused travel and banned from United flights for as long as the face mask rule is in effect....

Virgin Atlantic will resume flights from London Heathrow in late July. The airline will once again start flying to New York City, Los Angeles, Orlando, Hong Kong and Shanghai, beginning either July 20 or 21, depending on the destination, the airline announced this week. More destinations will be added over the next two weeks that will resume service in August.
