Airbnb’s “extenuating circumstances policy” now extends to around the world, allowing travelers on a global level to cancel reservations without being charged. The policy, which originally applied to mainland China, South Korea, and Italy amid the coronavirus outbreak as of last week, has been updated following President Trump’s recent travel restriction from Europe the U.S. as well as the increase of cases around the world at almost 180,000. “This policy applies to bookings of places to stay and Airbnb Experiences in every country and region around the world, with the exception of domestic travel in mainland China which is scheduled to return to normal rules on April 1,” Airbnb explained....

Costa Cruises is once again sailing the high seas and celebrating with a sale that will make any traveler contenta. The Italian-based cruise line is offering up to $200 per person in fare discounts and up to $100 per person in onboard spending credits as part of their “Back to Sea Sale,” the company shared with Travel + Leisure. To access the discount, guests must book a cruise by Sept. 30....

Nassau Paradise Island wants you to know that, despite the high-profile Hurricane Dorian barreling through the Bahamas, it is still open and ready for tourists. The island’s tourism board released a new video and campaign, alerting people that it was unaffected by the storm. All hotels and resorts are open and air service has resumed as normal. “Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and the most popular tourist destination within the country so, as a result, when consumers hear the Bahamas they may automatically associate the two," Fred Lounsberry, CEO of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, said in a statement....

Just because a trip to Puerto Rico definitely qualifies as a tropical getaway doesn’t mean you need to bring a passport. Despite a handful of reports and rumors, there’s no passport or visa requirement for U.S. citizens. After all, Puerto Rico is an official U.S. Commonwealth. The U.S. Virgin Islands, including St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix are passport-free destinations for U.S. citizens as well. Consider it the equivalent of boarding a flight to Hawaii....

Google is now reinforcing social distancing rules with data that has kept up with our lives in quarantine. On Friday, the company released anonymized data collected from Google Maps titled, “COVID-19 Mobility Reports.” The information is available for 131 countries and regions around the world. The project will likely be expanded over the coming weeks to include more regions. Google believes that officials will be able to use the data to provide better recommendations for business hours, delivery services and frequency of public transportation....

Lake Tahoe will remain closed for at least three weeks as California attempts to contain a local COVID-19 outbreak. “Unfortunately, yet again, Tahoe is closed,” Chris Fiore, communications manager for the city of South Lake Tahoe, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “If we can get things under control in the next three weeks, we can reopen just in time for New Year’s.” The Greater Sacramento region — which includes 13 counties in Northern California — will join other California regions that entered lockdown this week....

Puerto Rico will start requiring all hotel and short-term rental employees and guests to show either proof of vaccination or a negative test result upon arrival later this month. The new rule, which goes into effect on Aug. 16, will apply to both employees and guests of all hotels, Paradores, guesthouses, and short-term rentals, according to Discover Puerto Rico. For those who aren’t vaccinated, they must show proof of a negative PCR or antigen test taken within 72 hours of their visit....
