Following United Airlines’ announcement to eliminate change fees, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and Alaska Airlines have followed suit. American Airlines is dropping change fees for domestic and short-haul international flights, including to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, for premium cabin fares and most main cabin fares, according to a press release. Basic economy fares, however, would not be included. Customers who do change their flight will have to pay the fare difference for the new flight, but they will also be issued a voucher for the difference if the new flight is cheaper....

Visitors to Hawaii’s Diamond Head State Monument will have to plan ahead going forward as the landmark starts requiring reservations next month. Starting May 12, the monument, which is located on Oahu, will require out-of-state visitors to make a reservation in advance, according to Hawaii’s governor. The new reservation system is being implemented in hopes of reducing hiker congestion along the path to the summit as well as easing the load on the restrooms and reducing vehicle traffic....

Ahead of an expected surge in summer travel, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hiring 6,000 new security officers around the country. “TSOs are a critical first line defense in securing our nation’s commercial air transportation system,” acting Executive Assistant Administrator for TSA’s Security Operations, Melanie Harvey said in a statement on Friday. “Each day, our officers screen hundreds of thousands of airline travelers ensuring they arrive at their destinations safely....

United Airlines celebrated Juneteenth with a special flight from Houston to Chicago with an all-Black crew from the flight attendants and pilots to the gate agents, and more. The flight, UA1258, took off from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 10:30 a.m. and flew to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, commemorating the holiday and celebrating the launch of United’s Black Business Resource Group, the airline shared with Travel + Leisure. “As a global airline driven by our purpose and values, we’re in the business of bringing people together,” Jessica Kimbrough, United’s chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer, told T+L....

No longer will it be possible to zip down Parisian roads and admire the city from the back windows of a speeding taxi as Paris just lowered its speed limit in an effort to reduce pollution and improve air quality around the city. A bison at Yellowstone National Park attacked a visitor who got too close, only two days after the park partially reopened to the public. The woman followed the bison too quickly and too closely, prompting the animal to knock her to the ground and injure her at the park’s Old Faithful Upper Geyser Basin Wednesday afternoon. Park medical staff examined the woman at the scene. “She was assessed and refused transport to a medical facility,” the park service told NBC News....

A giant flamingo has taken over Tampa International Airport, welcoming travelers to the Florida city with a pink art installation sure to brighten any day. Airlines canceled most flights in and out of New York City on Monday as a strong winter storm struck the east coast. Winter weather warnings remain in place through Tuesday. Newark Liberty International Airport had 71% of its departing and 80% of arrival flights canceled Monday, according to FlightAware. At JFK Airport, 72% of both departing and arriving flights were canceled and at LaGuardia, 91% of departing flights and 88% of arriving flights were canceled....

Even vaccinated foreign travelers won’t be exempt from mandatory two-week hotel quarantines in Australia. Australia’s chief medical officer, Paul Kelly, doesn’t see enough evidence that vaccines limit COVID-19 transmission to waive the country’s quarantine requirements, Agence France-Presse reports. Most non-citizens are currently banned from entering Australia, and even residents face strict entry quotas.
