From the back of a pickup truck, I watched dust fly as we drove along a narrow road through one of Kauaʻi’s last sugar cane fields and past a long-abandoned mill. It was the early 1980s, my first trip to the island and, after a few days in Honolulu, it was quite a change from Waikiki. A year after the first case of COVID-19 was recorded in the city, Los Angeles opened restaurants, outdoor breweries, and more due to loosened restrictions announced this week. Indoor dining has been opened at 25% capacity, along with museums, zoos, and movie theaters, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Breweries can open outdoor seating with advance reservations required, and clothing stores can open at 50% capacity, according to California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy....

When Paris’s iconic Centre Pompidou closes its doors in late 2023 for a three-year renovation, there will be a new place to experience its museum collection - more than 3,600 miles away. The famed French institution is set to open its first North American outpost in a bit of an expected location: Jersey City, New Jersey. Located just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, the diverse city with 262,075 residents is remarkably different from the Centre Pompidou’s other outposts in Málaga, Spain (which opened in 2015), Brussels (opened in 2018), and Shanghai (opened in 2019)....

While majority of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, some regions of the country have higher vaccination rates than others.
